4 Things You Need To Do To Ensure Your Truck Lasts

by Gwendolyn Anderson

If you want to drive your truck for years to come, and rack up the miles till you are in the 200,000's, you need to make sure that you are taking proper care of your truck while it is still young. Here are four things that you need to do to ensure that your truck is able to put lots of miles on it.

#1 Always Get The Oil Changed On Time

It may seem simple, but it is really important to get the oil changed on time. This is one of the easiest and simplest ways you can extend the overall life of your vehicle. You need to make sure that when you change your oil, you also change the oil filter as well and use the higher and best quality oil that is recommended for your vehicle.

Failing to change the oil on time can wear down your engine and if you make this a regular practice, it will reduce the overall life of your engine significantly.

Make a habit of budgeting time to get your oil changed when you are a couple hundred miles away from the change mileage to ensure that you get it done on time.

#2 Rotate Your Tires

When you get your oil changed, it is a good idea to rotate your tires as well. Rotating your tires will extend the life of your tires by ensuring that they wear more evenly. However, rotating your tires has benefits for the rest of your truck as well. When you rotate your tires, you also reduce the strain on your truck's suspension. Tires that wear unevenly also wear out your truck's suspension at an accelerated rate, so moving the tires and rotating them can help keep larger systems on your truck working effectively as well.

#3 Change Out Engine Air Filter

Your engine has an air filter that it uses to keep the air clean. This air filter helps keep chemicals, dust and debris out of your engine. You can help keep your engine last longer and run more effectively by ensuring that you change out the engine air filter before it is so clogged it doesn't function properly anymore.

It is a good idea to change out the engine air filter every other oil change. However, if you live in an area with a high level of pollution, you may want to change out the engine air filter every time you get the oil changed.

#4 Keep Your Vehicle Aligned

Vehicles natural lose their alignment over time, as they go over bumps and pot holes in the road. You can help ensure that the alignment on your vehicle is perfect by getting the alignment checked and adjusted at least once a year. This will ensure that the various components connected to your alignment, such as your trucks' shocks and suspension, last longer.
